We all know that Netflix has featured some funniest comedy stars, including Adam Sandler, Kevin Hart, and Eddie Murphy, since its launch in 2012. Each year they release many movies to make us laugh, and we plan to capture the best of the best in 2023. We’ve used the Rotten Tomatoes scores to establish the best Netflix Original comedy movies that you can stream right now.
Throughout 2023, we will update this list highlighting the best and highest-rated Netflix comedy movies released by the streaming platform. The year has already seen movies like You People and Your Place or Mine, two films I liked but critics and audiences hated.
The rest of the slate for 2023 for comedies includes the return of Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston in Murder Mystery 2 (3/31/2023), the Jamie Foxx and John Boyega-led They Cloned Tyrone (July 21, 2023), and the Rachael Leigh Cook rom-com A Tourist’s Guide to Love (April 27, 2023).
Currently, as it sits, no film that Netflix has released in 2023 that is labeled as a comedy has hit Rotten Tomatoes and gotten a fresh rating; I was shocked to see that the brand new film We Have A Ghost which had gotten some great praise ahead of its release, currently sits at 43% with the critics on the meter.
The movie has been a hit with audiences as it sits with a 63% fresh status. So as it sits right now, Netflix released three big comedies to start the year You People, Your Place or Mine, and We Have a Ghost, and none of them have moved the needle with critics.
As more comedy movies hit the streaming giant in the coming months, we will add them to the list as long as they get over the hump. It’ll be interesting to see how critics and audiences accept the next big release in Murder Mystery 2, which might not be likely considering it sits at 44% with both critics and audiences.
