IPL 2023: Virender Sehwag has opined that Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma is not facing any technical problem, adding that the mental block in the batter’s mind is working against him.
Sehwag, however, has reckoned that Rohit will make up for the string of low scores the day he gets going. Rohit has scored just 184 runs in 10 matches at an average of 18.39 in the IPL 2023.
The 36-year-old has registered two back-to-back ducks and his scores in the last five matches read – 0, 0, 3, 2 and 44. The 10 innings this season has seen him score just one fifty.
“Rohit Sharma is not battling with the bowlers but with himself. There is a mental block. There’s no problem with his batting technique. Some confusion is going on in his mind.
“But the day he gets going, we will make up for all the previous matches,” Sehwag said while speaking on Star Sports.
Aaron Finch has also suggested Mumbai Indians openers take lessons from their Chennai Super Kings (CSK) counterpart Ruturaj Gaikwad. Finch said the likes of Cameron Green, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma looked confused against CSK.
“MI’s opening combination looks confused they are taking a lot of risk. They were looking to hit all the balls. They should learn from Ruturaj Gaikwad, he remains so calm in the middle and hits the loose balls,” Finch said.
Further, Imran Tahir has lauded Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star Virat Kohli for his insane consistency season after season in the IPL. Kohli is currently the fifth-highest run-scorer in the IPL with 419 runs under his belt at an average of 46.55 and a strike rate of 135.16.
“Virat Kohli has always had the urge to score runs. You can score maximum runs in one season, two or three seasons, but if you are successful in doing this for 15 consecutive seasons, then it can be attributed to the result of your hard work and dedication. What Virat has done in the last 15 years is really commendable.”
Mumbai Indians lock their horns against RCB at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.
