LPL 2023: Babar Azam, Pakistan’s captain is all set to make his debut in the upcoming Lanka Premier League. As per reports in the Pakistani media, the Skipper of the team has already been signed by the Colombo Strikers for LPL 2023. This will be Azam’s debut season in the Lanka Premier League. The auction for the Lanka Premier League is set to take place on 11th June 2023. While the tournament is set to commence on 31st July and conclude on 2nd August 2023. A total of 5 teams take part in the league which is spread across 3 different venues.
Babar Azam’s participation in the fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League will be a partial capacity. Ahead of the LPL, Pakistan will travel to Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series as a part of the next cycle of the World Test Championship.
The Colombo Strikers, who will play their first season of the Lanka Premier League this year, announced a star-studded Icon Players line-up on Tuesday. The Icon Players include Pakistan Captain Babar Azam, highly talented Pakistan speedster Naseem Shah and Sri Lankan T20 stars Matheesha Pathirana and Chamika Karunaratne.
Breaking: Pakistan captain Babar Azam has been signed by Colombo in the third edition of Lanka Premier League 2023. The tournament will commence on July 31 and will be played till August 22.
The 20-year-old Matheesha Pathirana has caught the cricketing world by storm with his performances in T20s in the recent past. The fast bowler has picked up 22 wickets in 20 matches at a spectacular average of 22.36.
Meanwhile, the bowling all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne will play a vital role in the Colombo Strikers team. The experienced campaigner has taken 60 wickets and scored 726 runs in 93 T20 matches.
The Colombo franchise will certainly receive a lot of attention from cricket fans around the world with Pakistan superstar Babar Azam in their set-up. The top-order batter has amassed a whopping 9201 runs in 260 T20s at a brilliant average of 44.02.
There will be an IPL-type auction in the LPL 2023 edition. Each team is required to maintain a squad of 20-24 members with 6 compulsory foreign players. Each team has been given a budget of $500,000 for the auction. However, prior to the auctions signings can be done. The remaining money can be carried forward to the auction.
The players are divided into 2 categories for the auction – Capped and Uncapped. After the first 70 players of auction, the remaining players will undergo an accelerated part in the auction, similar to the Indian Premier League.
