The well-attended Movies in the Square is back for a 16th season.
The Downtown Kingston Business Improvement Area announced the list of films this week to be shown almost every Thursday evening over the summer in Springer Market Square.
The first movie, on June 15, will be Rosie, a Canadian-made film about a young, orphaned Indigenous girl forced to live with her Aunty Fred in 1980s Montreal.
Other movies to be shown are: Midnight in Paris, on June 22; Sherlock Holmes, on June 29; Going on 30, on July 13; Ghostbusters Afterlife, on July 20; Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, on July 27; Mary Poppins Returns, on Aug. 3; Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, on Aug. 10; The Book of Life, on Aug. 17; Grease 2, on Aug. 24; and Minions: The Rise of Gru, on Aug. 31.
“This year, we have some big news,” Nayeli Salazar, events and marketing assistant with Downtown Kingston, said in a statement. “Following the tremendous success of the Latin party during the Encanto movie presentation last year, Movies in the Square will feature fun surprises at select screenings that add to the overall experience.”
