Senior Mason Nome advances to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas Men’s Golf senior Mason Nome has been selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Team, the organization announced Tuesday. The honor recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom.

The Academic All-District selections now advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 21. Men’s at-large nominees are eligible from the following NCAA sports: Fencing, Golf, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Rifle, Skiing, Volleyball, Water Polo and Wrestling.

To be nominated for this honor, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50-percent of the team’s games. No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and been on a college roster in that sport for two years.

Nome sports a 72.22 stroke average this season and earned his degree in Finance from UT’s prestigious McCombs School of Business in May. He is No. 95 in the current World Amateur Golf Rankings (May 17) and has shot par or better in 10 of his 23 stroke-play rounds this year, including five rounds in the 60s. Nome tied for 12th place in the individual standings at the Big 12 Championship (April 24-26) at 8-over-par 288 (72-71-69-76). He also claimed individual medalist honors, the first of his collegiate career, at The Spring Indy at WinStar (April 11-12) with a 54-hole score of 8-under-par 208 (69-68-71). A member of UT’s 2022 NCAA Championship team, he earned PING All-Central Regional team accolades last year and registered four top-10 and six top-20 individual finishes in 12 stroke-play events during the 2021-22 season. Nome is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first-team selection (2021 and 2022).

No. 15 Texas will compete at the 2023 NCAA Championships on May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
