The Indian Premier League (IPL) recognises the top run scorer of the competition with the prestigious Orange Cap.
The race is once again on for the coveted Orange Cap award in the IPL 2023 with Gujarat Titans’ star opener Shubman Gill taking the lead towards the end of the tournament. He has already scored 851 runs in 15 matches.
He is followed by RCB’s Faf du Plessis and his teammate Virat Kohli who have 730 and 639 runs respectively. None of the RCB players can overtake Gill’s tally as they failed to qualify for the play-offs.

Chris Gayle and David Warner have won the most number of Orange Caps in history, two each.
Former Australian international batsman Shaun Marsh won the maiden Orange Cap scoring 616 runs for Punjab Kings in the inaugural edition of the competition in 2008. He played a pivotal role in guiding his team to the semi-final.
Only five Indians have won the award in the past which include players like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. In fact, the legendary Tendulkar was the first Indian to win the award.
Thereafter, Robin Uthappa, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Ruturaj Gaikwad have bagged the coveted prize.
Former RCB skipper Kohli distinctly holds the record of scoring the most runs in a season of the IPL. In 2016, the talismanic registered 973 runs as his team reached the final of the competition.
